Two posts about finished objects in one week! Wow, I impress myself.
Less so when I remember that these are past finished projects I never posted about. Still, a post is a post!
Last Fall, Lisa went with Mom and Dad and Aunt P on a cruise to New England and Canada. I was invited, but chose to play my dream role, Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, instead. Lisa sent me lots of great postcards and brought me souvenir yarn from the trip, which was much appreciated.
At Christmas time, she gave me another skein of yarn that she'd gotten while on the cruise: Done Roving Frolicking Feet in the Christmas Cactus colorway:
A gorgeous combination of reds, burgundies, and greens. But not an easy yarn to match with the perfect pattern.
After some consultation (and a recommendation from Lisa) I decided on the Cedar Dancing socks from Cat Bordhi's New Pathways for Knitters - Book 1. And it was a great combination.
These are my favorite socks out of the dozen or more pairs I've knitted. I added a few repeats -- for a total of 18 -- of the pattern before I started the expansion for the arch to make the socks a little longer.
I love how the colors look in this pattern.
The pattern is a really interesting architecture - the heel flap on the bottom looks strange if you're used to a traditional heel flap, but it fits my foot very well.
I combined the colorway and the pattern name to call these socks my "Cactus Dancing" Socks - though on reflection, that sounds rather painful, with the cactus spines and all. But I look forward to trying some of the other architectures in the book. (Unless Lisa wrestles the book, which she lent me, back out of my hands.)
But still, a happy early -- or belated-- Christmas to me!

Hmmm. The pictures make me want to knit another pair of Cedar Dancing socks. But you can keep the book until Christmas. Then we will negotiate...
