Good news! not only did I finish one pair of socks during the Olympics, I found the cord to download images from my camera! So this post will be a mishmash of what I have been doing so far this year and the end of last year. (Camera cord has been lost since my return from Christmas vacation, found in the bottom of my knitting bag - why did it take so long to find it? because the bag certainly has seen some use since the beginning of the year).
Since I couldn't show you this when I last posted, here is my Knitting Olympics Project while waiting for the opening ceremony to start.
During the Olympics, I completed the feet on two socks for Socks for Soldiers, and knit the heel flap on a third sock. (The picture shows I have made some progress since then, but not much.) I think this would qualify me for a bronze medal in the Knitting Olympics, as my real goal was to complete 2 pairs. But there is no bronze medal, only gold, and I'm not sure if I deserve gold.
People who inspect this picture closely may notice that the finished pair is inside out, waiting to be washed. I don't know where the spot came from that looks like it is on the unfinished sock, but it is not there in real life. And the color is regular old army olive drab, not gray.
There have been a few projects completed since I last showed pictures. Santa stuck this Ruffled Bottle Sleeve from Knitted Gifts, designed by Ann Budd, into Dad's Christmas stocking. Knit in maybe an hour, on Christmas Eve. Out of some remaining Lion Brand Magic Stripes, used for afghan blocks.
On December 25 I also finally wove the ends in to my Todos Scarf, from a kit from the Unique Sheep. The color is a little more sky blue and a little brighter than it looks on my monitor.
On December 26 I finished a Rib-a-Roni Hat (ravelry link), pattern by Jane Tanner, out of the remains of the brown yarn I used for the Turn-a-Square hat, as charity knitting. Can't seem to find a picture, so will have to go without. This was an easy pattern, that I will use again.
(Notice - three projects completed in three days. A personal record.)
I then started a sweater I have been planning to knit for quite a while. In fact, the yarn was a birthday present a few years ago. The pattern is Kort Jakke by Betty Hermansen from Norsk Strikkedesign. I got part of one sleeve done, but then put it aside for the olive drab socks, and haven't gotten back to it yet. This is knit in Knit Picks Telemark.
In December I also started Wendy Johnson's Lace and Cable Socks (another ravelry link) from her books Socks From the Toe Up, out of Malabrigo Sock yarn in colorway Persia. No project pic yet; this is another project that I put aside for army socks, but will get back to once the second pair of army socks is finished.
I think this about does it for knitting progress in the last few months.
p.s. Speaking of Wendy Johnson, I'm planning to borrow the book that Kendra won in a drawing on her blog. It looks like a good read. Next best thing to winning blog give-aways is a sister winning one!
Love the shawl, love the bottle neck scarf, love the sweater start, love the knitting for soldiers idea if not the socks themselves, love finding a new blog post.
